Welcome back! We are into Day 5 of Dan Norris’ “The 7 Day Startup” book and it’s all going quite well so far. The new website is pretty much up at ClicksAndLeads.com thanks to the marvellous templates at Leadpages.
Every time I look at the name ClicksAndLeads.com I can’t quite believe that it was still available – it’s just too good! If I was of a superstitious nature (I’m not!) I would be tempted to believe it was a sign, a good omen.

Before I move onto Dan’s Day 5, I want to let you know it’s not all been 100% plain sailing. Oh, the tech’s been fine, the decision-making has been fine, but oh, the voices…
The old internal dialogue – my inner nutter as Andy Shaw calls him – has been having a field day, with my mind turning over everything from, “Won’t people think it’s too cheap and therefore rubbish” to “What will my internet marketing maties think/ say if it fails” through to stuff as daft as “Won’t the other Facebook Ads agency people I know get mad with me?”.
But I’ve pressed on regardless because I do believe that there is a place in the market for those who can only afford a marketing budget of $20 – $100 a day upwards. I’m getting traffic and leads for clients with that kind of budget so why shouldn’t even those smaller business owners have the opportunity to have a well managed ad campaign (even if they don’t have time or the inclination to learn it all themselves)?
Won’t those clients grow and become bigger clients one day? And if I don’t want to work with them then, at that level, I can refer them onto to good people I know.
I’m also thinking that, even if it doesn’t turn into a huge startup on the scale of WPCurve.com, it will be a nice little lead generator for CairncrossMedia.com (done for you digital services) or even my “Fast Start Masterclass” (digital marketing video training which includes Facebook Ads) at the Business Success Factory?
Anyway… enough worrying about what people think or what may or may not happen! Let’s proceed as if it’s going to be a massive success!
So, let’s move on to Dan’s “10 Ways To Market Your New Business”, or Day 5.
I’m not going to tell you all 10, because you’ll have to get Dan’s book for that, but I’ll tell you the one’s I like the look of!
- Paid Facebook Ads obviously, I’ve just set a couple live today and I’m getting optins from those already
- Social media marketing by offering the Free Report with a link to the site
- Podcast advertising, I have two I can use sponsorship slots on
- Affiliates – I’ve had enquiries, so have added a link to sign up as an affiliate – 10% recurring sounds good to me
No 1 is the fastest, but we’ll see what works best and I’ll report back on Day 7.
I’ve also added the site to ProductHunt.com but it’s unlikely it will be featured there as it’s a very busy site.
Inbound
While I’ve been typing this I’ve had 3 optins from the ads, 2 Free Report optins and a Demo optin. It’s starting to move now and as I get more clicks, Facebook will go and find more people like the people who clicked.
I really need to look at an automated tool for Twitter, like Social Oomph, where you can pre-schedule tweets, but I’m not keen on having lots of tweets about the same thing on my timeline so I’m resisting that for now. I’m just posting manually but I’m getting some shares.
It’s Sunday here so I will go and spend some time with my daughter till she has to go to work, then my son’s coming over on his way home from work, so that’s that for today. I’ll read one of my Christmas presents in between, a slim little book called “Obvious Adams” which is supposed to be great!
7 Day Startup is a series of posts about my own journey following the steps laid out in Dan’s book over the Festive season, 2014. Almost a year on, and my startup, ClicksandLeads.com, is going great guns, so I highly recommend you trying it for yourself!
